Interesting book, really funny as expected from Jeremy Strong. Nick quick read and following the story of Trevor and all of the mysteries him and Streaker get into is really fun! :D
Think again, Streaker is not like other, normal dogs. Streaker has his own agenda and makes life challenging and exciting for Trevor and his family. Trevor must find a way to walk Streaker whilst keeping him under control and without attracting too much attention from the school bully, the police, fire brigade and his parents.

Trevor has been promised payment from his Mum if he walks Streaker , the dog, everyday during the school holidays. Sounds like easy money doesn't it?Think again, Streaker is not like other, normal dogs. Streaker has his own agenda and makes life challenging and exciting for Trevor and his family. I read this book with a group of year 4 children and they absolutely loved it. The storyline really held the attention of the children throughout the whole book. The crazy ideas that Trevor comes up with to help him walk Streaker are creative, bizarre and usually a complete disaster! This is a fantastic circle/carpet time book to read to, or with, the whole class.

👱🏼♀️ said she would like to look for more Jeremy Strong books in the future!
This was a very engaging read for me because of the hilarious attempts made to train a dog. Training a dog is also task that many can relate to. I also admire the amusing use of similes and metaphors used to describe Streaker as well as other characters. For example, Charlie Smugg is described as having 'great gangly arms like King Kong' and resembling a 'Prehistoric Man'. The fairly large print (for a chapter book) and use of quirky illustrations (by Nick Sharratt) would make this book appealing for Upper Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 readers. This light-hearted chapter book would even capture the imagination of reluctant readers due to its conversational tone. However, the use of some challenging words such as 'translucent', 'astonishment' or 'harnessing' may make this book a slightly difficult read for Lower Key Stage 1 readers.
This book is a very valuable resource for use in the classroom. It can certainly be read to the whole class as the themes explored in this book would appeal to both boys and girls. 'The Hundred-Mile-An Hour Dog' can also be used for guided reading with confident readers, with a particular focus on the use of figurative language. It is also a useful resource for literacy lessons as it can be used as a basis for comprehension. In addition, the book could inspire the composition aspect of writing. For instance, pupils could produce a creative newspaper report about Streaker being rescued by the fireman. This task links in with the KS2 English programme of study as pupils need to learn about tailoring writing for different audiences and texts. Moreover, students could possibly write an advertisement (for a local newspaper), as Trevor, which gives them an opportunity to practise descriptive writing whilst describing their perfect trainer for Streaker. These tasks would give pupils an opportunity to apply the processes of writing (planning, drafting and writing, evaluating and editing, proof reading as well as reading aloud and sharing).
With reference to punctuation and grammar, teachers could help pupils explore the use of fronted adverbials in the book as well as using and punctuating direct speech. The use of semi colons to mark boundaries between independent clauses could also be explored as well as relative clauses as these are aspects referred to in the KS2 English programme of study.
In terms of other cross-curricular links, this book can be used for a Design and Technology lesson as pupils could design their own inventions for training Streaker.
'The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog' is a must-read and will certainly have you laughing your socks off!

We enjoyed this over a number of bedtimes. Jeremy Strong writes effective chapter books for young listeners and early readers. This novel is the first in a series about Streaker, an exuberant and fast-as-a-rocket dog and her exhausted owner Trevor.

He stands to earn £30 if he can manage. He and best friend Tina decide to train her. But school bully Charlie Smugg also bets them that they can't - a very nasty bath awaits them if they fail.
This story follows their very funny attempts to train Streaker to listen to her humans. Just what will they come up with and will it work?
My 5-year-old was quite taken with this, we don't have pets but he loved seeing Streaker's misadventures.
It was easy to read, in short chapters perfect for bedtime and with the usual illustrations throughout. We would definitely consider reading others in the series.

This book is about a dog, Streaker, who runs away every time someone tries to walk her! It was funny when the children were trying to walk her but she was so fast that they were hovering above the floor. I also really liked the part when they made the exercise machine for walking Streaker, it was a huge disaster! Another great part is when Streaker ran from the kitchen to Trevor's lap like a mini- meteorite! The book has really funny illustrations. I would really really like to

Killer Tomatoes' by the same author.

This book is full of lots of really funny moments, the bath in the field and Streaker flying bottom first into the washing machine ( I cant believe my mummy and my brother forgot about that part!) The hero, Trevor has some wild and crazy ideas and spends far too much time in the police station!
